Media thoughts from the ScreenMe conference

ScreenMe 2023

I am sharing important thoughts for me that happened today at Tallinn University From the ScreenMe conference, which discussed today's trends in screen media more broadly. My observations are from one of the keynote speakers at the conference Sean Branagan from the presentation "What are the latest trends in entrepreneurship for screens and media?"

An era of change

Today we are living in the same era of changes as in 2007, when the iPhone, android, Facebook, Twitter came to the market, Google bought YouTube, all of which was supported by Web 2.0 or cloud computing, Github and others.

Today we are in the era of Web 3.0, where ChatGPT, Unreal Engine, NVIDIA Omniverse and many other solutions will make the same big changes in the coming years as they did in 2007 and beyond.

Comment: I have to agree with the thoughts, because the developments in the field of Video AI alone in the last six months are absolutely incredible. But revolutionary times can only be evaluated in retrospect.

Will artificial intelligence lead to work?

You won't lose your job because of AI, but you could if you don't use it.

AI is generative, i.e. there should not be any danger in it for the next 10-15 years. However, it is not known what will happen when the AI starts to "think" or generate tasks for itself.

AI is a tool that makes many things easier and faster. For example, if a student applies for a job and says he has a team for the task. They ask which team? The student answers that this and another AI solution help him in this topic. The student will be employed.

Comment: Artificial intelligence is as dangerous as an axe. Just try to chop down trees without an ax. However, all tools can be used incorrectly, but in this case the user is to blame. "Cutting down trees with an ax" may already cause 3-4 day work weeks for many in the coming years.

PS: How many social media marketers were there in Estonia before 2007? In the same way, in the near future, artificial intelligence may create jobs with an as yet unknown name.

Social media is dead/dying!

Social media is no longer "social" because all channels are becoming more and more a recommendation system, where it is no longer important that the content delivered to you comes from your friends or the channels you follow.

This does not mean that Facebook, Instagram, etc. are dead, what once gave social media its meaning, i.e. content shared by friends, is simply dying.

Comment: I've even started noticing it more and more. To check, I opened my phone and took the last 10 FB posts. Hell, take it - HALF of the posts were FB recommendations.

The Future - Creator Economy

Brands are increasingly becoming media agencies. Marketers can use AI to get solutions easier, faster and cheaper than by sending an idea brief to three agencies.

People are increasingly working in their own companies or in small teams. Already today, you can see names behind the work of major production companies, who actually offer some part of the service.

Creating good content doesn't mean looking at numbers all the time. A basketball player who enjoys the game does not look at the score on the scoreboard after each basket. Getting too bogged down in numbers can detract from the content, while the final score is important in the game and in life.

There will be more different sources of income. By creating good content on YouTube, there may be an opportunity to earn many times more from other places and other activities. Sean gave an example from the dark From Molly Burke, who has a YouTube channel with nearly 2 million followers, but his major income comes from performing and elsewhere.

Comment/prediction: in less than two years, no Estonian company will hire a person who does not know how to use artificial intelligence for marketing. Today's marketing professionals who don't learn AI will probably be the first to put on their shoes and look for new challenges.

As a result, I decided to start putting together a Video AI training that focuses on various video topics for the use of artificial intelligence solutions in the marketing activities of companies.
