What did I learn from the Egypt conveyor belt trip?

If a few years ago it was promised that "Egypt is the last country to go on vacation to", this spring the words were eaten, that is, a proper conveyor-belt trip (read: mass tourism) was tried. You can find the travel document: http://egiptus2012.wordpress.com/

The main reason was the search for the sun, which in March is relatively limited due to the limited time (one week) and financial possibilities. Fortunately, the revolutions in Egypt had brought down the mass (instead of the former 5 flights, there are now only 2 flights per week from Estonia) and the prices.

Every experience in a foreign country always gives good lessons and broadens the horizons, which is why they are always useful. Egypt's observations, especially in the internet and video marketing world, were as follows:

Hotel selection

Trips start with preparation. Trans-Siberian train journeys starting with researching visas, schedules and tickets, conveyor hotel holidays with hotel selection.

The hotel is offered by the tour operator according to its deals and the customer's wishes. The less specific the client's wishes are, the more the organizer offers hotels according to its deals.

Therefore, many first-time visitors end up in hotels located in the fields, which look good from the picture, but were "very favorable offers at the last minute". At the same time, offers a few tens of euros more expensive would ultimately be much more convenient and even cheaper (because you also need to get from the field to the city or the beach).

Therefore, when choosing a hotel, it is worth trusting not only tour operators, but also others, i.e. comments, pictures and videos that other hotel users have left on TripAdvisor, Booking.com, Trip.ee, etc.

If the final choice is between a couple of hotels, it is worth investigating whether and what videos are from the hotel Available on YouTube and elsewhere, because a video gives a much better overview than a text or a picture.

Note No. 1

Hotels do not use video to present their services. Google or YouTube some hotels in Estonia or the world and see how many have made high-quality video introductions.

NB: VideoTurundus.ee is currently producing promotional videos for one of Tallinn's hotel chains, which should be ready by mid-April at the latest. If you want a video introducing your accommodation, then feel free to get in touch.

Hotels mainly use introductory text and professional sales pictures, which make the customer have a higher expectation about the hotel than the actual service. TripAdvisor also allows guests to post pictures of the hotel, which are often of faulty details (broken electrical wires, old technical solutions, mold in the bathroom, etc.) and bring many people's sense of reality and expectations back to earth.

Below are two pictures from the web and TripAdvisor of a hotel I recently visited in London.

vs

Neither says more about a hotel than a video. Even if the latter is done with a shaky hand.

Similar to other businesses, the hotel's best customer is a repeat visitor, who is offered various discounts the following times, until the 10th time visitor received a palm named in front of the house at the Hilton. The best way to get a repeat customer is to present your services as realistically as possible and then meet and exceed those expectations.

The video allows the client to give the most realistic overview of the hotel and its surroundings in advance, from various rooms and restaurants to meeting rooms and saunas.

The Hilton Waterfall became an inexpensive sports camera and was put together with just a few hours of filming and editing a few simple short videos (with the aim of selling a higher quality service later). At first glance, they seem these clips even better than any other video from this hotel.

Convenience and cheapness

Conveyor belts are cheap because they move the masses. The larger the mass, the cheaper the service can be provided. For example all-inclusive A 5* hotel night at the Hilton Waterfall was on the order of USD 100, while the check-in price for the room only (without meals and drinks) was USD 350 for walk-in.

The conveyor belt is also more convenient, because the vacationer is delivered from Tallinn airport with his packages directly to the hotel room, i.e. you don't really have to think about how Crossing the Vietnam-Laos border post after it was closed.

That's what this conveyor belt is - it offers cheapness and convenience to the masses, during which the masses try to make as many photo memories as possible in the style of "I'm resting here alone in private", for example, in Thailand's most famous Maya Beach (from the movie The Beach), which is constantly full of people, but all this second looking for where only nature is behind.

The "conveyor-tourist" also wants to get as real a preview as possible of his chosen vacation, because generally, a trip abroad can be made 1 to 2 times a year.

Work or hobby

I am very happy for people who really like their work or even have a hobby of it. Inevitably, however, for many, "work" means something obligatory and essential for living, which is sometimes done against their will. A vacation for such an employee generally means a total disconnection from the work environment and not doing anything useful for others.

Taking into account that working, i.e. getting paid, means "doing something useful for others" and by planning this knowledge into their vacation, travel enthusiasts who do something useful for others while traveling (or vacation?) have the opportunity to extend their trip with the help of income until they can make a full living from it to serving.

Instead of taking pictures in the style of "I'm here in the hotel" or "I'm here on safari", travelers who are more interested in (internet) marketing could think and research in advance whether and how the service provider markets its products and services and think about what added value could be offered. If the company has a website with text and images, it will definitely be interested in a "free" video offer.

I believe that only from some good work done for free (for which only testimonial), it is possible to ask for a barter transaction for accommodation or other service on the following trips, and also a monetary payment on subsequent trips.

There are many ways to earn money while traveling - the Madventuris made a TV series, some popular blogs, there are even opportunities to introduce web pages. However, the surest way to earn is to offer a specific job or service while traveling and market it.

Note no. 2

People don't work during the holidays (surprise-surprise). However, beginners could offer a (marketing) service to an accommodation or a tour operator with not much time expenditure, as a result of which the vacation could become a hobby (work).

Big world

Estonia is not a meaningless country, but a pointless market. Peep Laja also wrote about this in his latest internet marketing newsletter: "The smallness of our population sets very large limits. Poles and Russians can make things for their home market, we can't. The niches are so small that it is not possible to do serious business there."

Every time I am away from Estonia, I see the same thing. After being in Estonia for more than half a year, however, the eyes begin to close in on the possibilities beyond the borders. By now, however, there have been enough requests and contacts that your own english tourism video marketing website to finally launch. I hope that after half a year at the latest, I will have gone several steps further from the beginning.

Summary

1) Hotels and other accommodations with video introductions are definitely better able to sell and market their services.

2) Making a simple video presentation of the hotel is suitable even for the beginners of the operator school. By improving yourself in the field, it is possible to take traveling as a profession in the long run.
