Every Facebook fan page owner wants those who like the content on the page to become fans of the page. The same goes for individuals, organizations and businesses that regularly produce YouTube video content.
The first thing that a viewer who has not yet subscribed to a YouTube channel will see is the channel's video introduction or trailer and its description. If there is no trailer, the viewer will first see the last video of the channel or the first featured one playlist.
The nature of the trailer
The channel trailer is similar in nature to a movie trailer – it is short, grabs attention with the best parts of the movie, or the clips on the channel, and leaves the viewer with the impression that they want to see this movie, or the next videos on this channel.
When creating a trailer, you should consider that it will only be seen by those who are not familiar with the content of the channel - for example, if the channel has 10,000 subscribers who already know what to expect, then it will not be shown to them.
The purpose of the trailer
The purpose of a movie trailer is to get an interested moviegoer to watch it, The sole purpose of a YouTube trailer is to get a new visitor to the channel to subscribe.
Although subscribing to a channel is only 1 click, getting it is not easy. First, you have to arouse the interest of the viewer by showing him the most interesting parts of the best videos, and then you have to ask the viewer to click in a humorous or original way. A good example is Trailer for Jimmy Fallon's YouTube channel:
You can invite the viewer to join the channel both by sound and by means of comments added to the video, but be sure to review it as well video description, which opens next to the trailer - make it interesting enough and definitely together subscribe with a link.
You can get long in the video description subscribe shorten the link using, for example, goo.gl or bit.ly, then you can see later in the statistics whether the trailer was useful, i.e. how many people subscribed using the link.
If there is no trailer at the moment
As long as your channel doesn't have a trailer, you could set it to the video that is the most popular on your channel or that says the most about the channel's content.
To do this:
- see that channel front page customization would be on.
- Under the link intended for new visitors, you can turn on the introduction of the channel and for this select a video from among all your uploaded videos.
Thanking existing subscribers is also a good trailer for the channel. For example, the International Basketball Federation FIBA thanks all 50,000 subscribers on its 3×3 street basketball YouTube account and boasts that the next goal is 100,000.

Summary
The trailer of the channel shows the most whether the author of the channel deals with YouTube consciously and professionally or not. Only very few Estonian YouTube channels have made a trailer, even so few that a long search did not find any.
If you know any Estonian YouTube channel that has a trailer, then send me information and I include him in this post as a good example.
