5 interesting YouTube facts

In one minute, remarkably little and a lot happens on the Internet. For example, it took me about one minute to write the first sentence of this story. However, all kinds of "one-minute infographics" show that an incredible amount more was done on the Internet during that time:

Every time I come across a similar image while reading or in social media presentations, I can tell approximately exactly when this information comes from. For example, the image above is from 2012, when YouTube uploaded 72 hours of video in one minute.

1) In 2015, this number is 400 hours!

YouTube downloads 400 hours of video in one minute. In order to watch this minute (8 hours a day, weekend off), it takes 50 days or so more than 2 months of working time.

According to this arithmetic, it takes a total of 10 years to watch 1 hour and 15 minutes of uploaded videos, and for that, to watch all the videos uploaded in 2 months would be homo sapiens on the last ice age 12,000 years ago, all working hours had to be spent on YouTube.

2) 5% video test brings 95% views

Parerto's 80/20 principle does not apply on YouTube, as only 5% videos exceed 10,000 views, bringing a total of 95% out of 7.8 billion views.

3) 8 videos have a billion views

8 videos have crossed the magical 1 billion view mark. All are music videos:

  1. Psy: Gangnam Style - 2,406,688,654
  2. Justin Bieber: Baby - 1,207,377,406
  3. Taylor Swift: Blank Space - 1,129,447,206
  4. Katy Perry: Dark Horse - 1,086,631,431
  5. Katy Perry: Roar: 1,049,137,307
  6. Enrique Iglesias: Bailando - 1,027,716,512
  7. Taylor Swift: Shake it Off - 1,022,010,471
  8. Meghan Trainor: All About That Bass - 1,004,721,343

4) YouTube has over a billion users

It's like Facebook Over a billion active users on YouTube six. It must be admitted, however, that less than 2 months ago announced FB that they had a billion active users in one day!

5) Half of the views are from mobile phones

More than half of YouTube video views come from mobile devices. Smarter marketing pens can also take this knowledge into account and take action.

Summary

Statistically speaking, a video can therefore be considered successful if it has received at least 10,000 views, as 5% is among the most popular videos on YouTube.

However, the number of views does not really show anything to this day, because a video with 100 views, where the majority of viewers took the desired action, is definitely more successful than a video with 10,000 views that was simply clicked.
